Rite Aid 3/2/10

It's a new month of rebates at Rite Aid!!!  And there are some great clearance deals to go with the rebates!  After traveling to roughly all of the Rite Aid's in the greater Buffalo area, I can tell you that they should have many face products and hair products on clearance for 50% off - even if they are not marked as such, ask, and they will probably ring up half price!  In particular I was looking for the 30 count Biore face wipes and John Frieda hair care (for curly hair!).  So today I got:
Biore 30 ct. cloths = $3.99 (bc they were 50% off) x 2 - 2 $2 WQ - $2 off 2 MQ (these coupons can be found right in the box of the products!)
John Frieda Frizz-Ease Spiral Spray = $3.24 (also 50% off) x 2 - 2 $1 off hair care coupons from bottom of previous receipts - 2 $1 MQ
3 Snickers bars, on sale for 50 cents each = $1.50 - $1 MQ
Also used a $3 off $15 purchase
Total = $2.57
This becomes an even better deal because both the Biore and John Frieda products count for rebates - if you buy $15, you get $5 - and you can do this up to 3 times!!!  So I now have $14.46 towards the rebate.  Plus, for the JF, if you buy a styler and a shampoo or conditioner (I have not done this yet), you will get back the price of the shampoo or conditioner!  I will be purchasing one of those, as well as more clearance Biore and John Frieda - I will let you know my total savings once I've made all my purchases!

Target Kashi Deal

This week at Target Kashi snacks are on sale for $2.59 and if you buy 4, you get one free!  If you combine this with coupons, you can get a great deal!  I got 5 products for $2.86, which is 57 cents each!!!  There are coupons out there for $1.50 off (I just got some in the mail with a free Kashi cereal sample!) and there are $3.00 off 2 peelies, as well as $1.50 printables.  The granola bars, cereal bars, cookies, and crackers all count for the deal, as does the cereal, but it's a little more expensive.

RA February Total

I felt like I went a little crazy at Rite Aid last month, since their new Wellness Program allowed you to get some really great deals (it is only available in select areas, including Buffalo and San Diego - random!) but I wondered if it was really worth it so I decided to see exactly how much I spent.  In totaling all my receipts for Feb. I came up with a grand total of $26.76 (some of this was actually paid using giftcards but I'm not factoring that in).  For how much stuff I bought, that in and of itself seems like a great deal!  But if you factor in the rebates, it gets even better...
Total = $26.76
- $17.99 back in rebate check from RA
- $5 RA gift card from Nivea
- $15 Visa Reward Card from P&G
- $10 RA gift card from Healthy Heart
= a profit of $21.23!!!
Plus if you factor in the Olay Quench Body Lotion rebates, which I did get ($28.96) and the Physician's Formula Bamboo Wear Compact ($5.21) rebate I should be getting as well...
+ $34.17
= A PROFIT OF $55.40!!!!!!!!
I guess it really is worth it!

Rite Aid 2/28/10 Patchouly

Satin Care Shave Gel = $1.99 - $1 MQ = $.99  Get back $1 rebate
Efferdent = $5.99 - $1 MQ - $1 off oral care wellness Q = $3.99   Get back $5.00 rebate
(no I do not have dentures, but I heard this stuff is great for cleaning toilets!)
Listerine Pocket Packs = $3.99 - $1 MQ - $1 WQ = $1.99   Get back $3.00 rebate
Acnomel cream = $6.99 - $2 WQ = $4.99  Get back $6 rebate
Scunci hair ties = $3.99
Scunci hair ties = $1.99 (buy one get one half off)
Total = $24.94 - $5 off $20 Video Values Q = 19.94 - $7 in Q's from above = $12.94 - $10 Rite Aid gift of savings certificate = $2.94 PLUS get back $15 in rebates!!!  Even without factoring in the $10 gift certificate, I'm still up $2!!!
I love the new Rite Aid Wellness Program!!!

Free Card

The next time you are at Hallmark, make sure to get your Free card from their new kids collection - you don't need a coupon, or to buy anything else, you can just walk in and get the free card, that's what I did!  This offer goes until 3/14 so you still have time - there are 9 different cards to choose from, and although they are supposed to be from parents to their kids, I enjoy giving kids' cards to everyone, so I'm sure you can find one that you like!  You can find out more here

Bodywash Money Maker at Target

There is a hidden giftcard deal at Target - buy 3 of the "bonus pack" Olay bodywashes (I found these on an endcap, they have small lotions attached to them) and get a $5 Target giftcard - the bodywashes (including Olay Ribbons, my personal favorite!) are $5.50 each and you can use 1 manufacturers coupon and 1 target coupon on each one - I had 3 $1 MQ and 1 75 cent TQ - THEN go here and submit for the $15 rebate when you buy the 3 bodywashes - with coupons and the giftcard, I actually made a profit of $7.25 (minus tax) for buying bodywash!  Scan the bodywashes before you buy them - on the right of the screen you will see $5 giftcard - for some reason one of the scents did not come up so I didn't get that one.  If you prefer bar soap, there are also bonus packs of those that work for the deal.  The $5 giftcard deal supposedly goes through March, so you still have plenty of time to make your purchase before the March 12 deadline for the rebate!
ETA: I got my $15 rebate today!!!

Rite Aid 2/7/2010 Emily

Well as Patchouly has already noted we haven't been very good about updating the blog recently. I haven't been very good about it for two main reasons. First I really haven't been so serious about the CVS/Rite Aid deals because there just doesn't seem to be as good of deals recently. Second I've been a bit obsessed with seeing free movies as you'll soon see. Today I did get some good deals at Rite Aid so I thought I would go ahead and update the blog with this deal and all the movies I've seen.

Hershey Miniatures and Reeses Cups 2 for $5-$2 coupon=$3
Electrasol Dishwasher Tabs $4.49-$1 coupon-$1.50 SCR=$2.99
Glide Floss $3.99-$.75 coupon=$3.24
Gillette Fusion Shave Gel $2.99-$1 coupon-$1 SCR=$.99
I also used my $10 off Reward from the Holidays so after SCR I actually made $.61!

Free Movie Ticket!

Become a fan of BE OUR MOVIE CRITIC! on facebook - if you are one of the first 200,000 fans (right now they are at 2500) you will get one free  movie ticket to any AMC theater, to be sent out Feb. 25 - March 7!

Free Disney Tickets!

Last year Emily and I both took advantage of Disney's deal to get into a park Free on your birthday.  This year they are offering a free Disney day if you give a day volunteering.  Last week Rob and I (you can sign your whole family up if you want and they each get a ticket!) delivered sample bouquets and sales kits to local schools and businesses for Hospice of Buffalo's annual flower sale - despite getting lost and one wrong delivery, we had a great time helping such a good cause (my mom currently works for Hospice in Wisconsin and I volunteered at an Ohio Hospice in college) and it was definitely worth the free Disney ticket!  You have to sign up through Disney, you can't just volunteer for whatever you want - but go HERE and see what's available in your area, there are lots of great organizations to help out!  We are planning to use our tickets to go to Disneyland (you can choose any park) when I finally make it back to CA!  Emily's event got cancelled due to all the rain in CA right now, but she is rescheduling and will hopefully do her volunteering soon!

You know you are obsessed with deals when you get up at 7am on a Sat. to stand in the Buffalo cold to get a free $10 gift card to Dollar General!  For their grand re-opening they also gave away a bag, cup, and Tshirt (shown above).

Universal Studios update

Last year around this time, we won tickets to Universal Studios from a Super Bowl promotion - we ended up using our tickets in October, when it was extremely hot in Florida!
We won 7 day Park Hopper tickets!  Our favorite ride was definitely the new Rip Rockit Roller Coaster - you pick your own music to dance to on the coaster!

Emily's parents came too, since her dad also won a free ticket!  Her parents got us a great deal on a hotel, with the best free breakfast buffet!

One of my favorite free things to do at any park is take pictures with as many characters as you can find!
We were there during Halloween Horror Nights and decided to check it out (Emily's parents got us a good deal on tickets through FL AAA!) - it was definitely a super scary experience to remember!
If you go to the Blue Man Group box office (right outside Universal) the day of the show and show a student id you can get 2 tickets for $25 each - these tickets are usually $85!!!) - and if you go back later, you can get 2 more student tickets for your parents!  We had great seats and it was definitely a good time!

Free Books

If books are more your cup of tea than movies, check out Read It Forward which allows you to request Free copies of books periodically!  Also, if you're still in school, see if your college offers a reading program - last year I picked up The Soloist for free!

Jan/Feb Food Deals

Buy one get one free corn dog from Weinerschnitzel (expires Jan. 26) here
Buy one get one free entree from Smokey Bones (expires Jan. 30) here

Last summer Emily and I discovered Advance Free Sceenings - it turns out you can get tickets online to all kinds of movies before they actually come out in theaters - and it's free!  We became quite obsessed with this over the summer, and honestly, that is probably what we were doing instead of blogging!  It's a pretty time consuming process (you have to check lots of websites every chance you get), you have to go on certain days, and you have to get there early to make sure you get a seat (they always give out more tickets than there are seats) - we're not talking 10 minutes or even a half hour early here, we're talking HOURS!  But if you don't mind waiting in line (btw, you can do all kinds of things in line, like get your dinner super cheap with coupons and eat in line, bring your free magazines to read, and catch up on your phone calls!), you can see lots of great movies for free!
When I came back to Buffalo I thought my free movie days were over - but they actually have advance screenings here too, who would have thought!  Emily of course has seen WAY more than me, they pretty much show everything in San Diego, but I've been to quite a few since I've been back.  So I have decided to keep a list of all the free movies I get to see, as well as give my own personal rating on them - enjoy!

Movie Ratings
* = Thank goodness it was free!
***** = I would actually pay money to see this!

Summer 09 San Diego
Julie and Julia *****
Funny People *** (too long)
GI Joe (Red carpet event with the stars!) ***
The Goods * (love Ari and the manband but not my thing)
Post Grad **** (Rory from Gilmore Girls and Matt from Friday Night Lights, need I say more?)
The Time Traveler's Wife ****
Adam ****
Paper Heart ***** (at least until I found out it was all a sham!)

Buffalo 09
Extract **
9 *** (not a fan of the ending)
The Blind Side (twice!) *****
Invictus **** (too long due to excessive rugby playing)
Whip It *** (underwater makeout scene - so unrealistic, come on! but loved Ellen Page and Kristen Wigg)
Zombieland **** (surprisingly hilarious with a random cameo)

Buffalo 2010
The Lovely Bones *** (creepiest movie - ever)
The Book of Eli ** (oh hi Mila Kunis, why are you here?)
Extraordinary Measures ** (Keri Russell tried to make up for Brendan Fraiser's bad acting but even Felicity can't perform miracles)
Crazy Heart **** (loved the music but The Wrestler was better)
When In Rome *** (funnier than expected and great wedding dress at the end!)
Dear John *** (points for being pretty acurate to the book)
Valentine's Day **** (I saw this twice for free bc I also won tickets thru The Melting Pot!  Taylor and Taylor are hilarious!!!)
Shutter Island ****  (good twist, suspenseful and creepy!)
